Disruptive Technologies Shaping the Future of Asia: ChatGPT and more
Emerging technologies have the potential to shape our future across industries. ChatGPT is one example achieving mass adoption at a record rate, far surpassing platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Netflix.
At the recent Tembusu Ideabar Series on “Exploring the Disruptive Edges of Asia” co-hosted by Tembusu Partners and Deloitte Center for the Edge on 9 May, guest speaker Ms Michelle Khoo, Director, Deloitte spoke on emerging technologies and how they will shape our future.
The session highlighted the extensive applications of AI, the metaverse, and Mixed Reality (MR) technology in various sectors such as healthcare, construction, media, and consumer brands. These technologies can enhance patient care, optimize production processes, and create new revenue streams for businesses. The emergence of AI idol groups in South Korea exemplifies the synergies between meta-human technologies and entertainment. Metaverse platforms create a new source of revenue for consumer brands, Nike generated over $186 million in revenues from NFT sales in 2022.
Governments worldwide are signaling their commitment to adopting emerging technologies. Singapore and India are setting up regulatory frameworks, while China, South Korea, and Japan have included the metaverse in their economic plans. This shows that governments recognize the importance of these technologies and their potential impact on industries and society.
The adoption of emerging technologies can lead to significant advancements and efficiencies. Examples from the session included holomedicine surgeries at Singapore National University Health System, where MR technology enhanced patient care and enabled cross-border collaboration among medical practitioners. The use of digital twin technology at BMW’s Plant Lydia in China reduced construction time and optimized operations using AI. These examples demonstrate how these technologies can revolutionize processes and improve outcomes.
